Min Temp Drops To 9.2°c In City, Air ‘poor’ | Gurgaon News – Times of India

Gurgaon: The city’s minimum temperature dipped to single digit for the second time this season on Monday. The night temperature was 9.2 degrees Celsius, a notch above the normal, down from 10.4 degrees Celsius the previous day. This is the lowest temperature this season after November 25, when it stood at 9.1 degrees Celsius.
Monday’s maximum temperature, on the other hand, rose to 27.2 degrees Celsius, two notches above the normal. It was 26.2 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
Gurgaon city’s air quality index (AQI) improved to ‘poor’ on Monday at 283, compared to 310 (very poor) the previous day.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the weather is likely to remain dry with clear skies over the next two days. This, coupled with north-westerly winds, is likely to result in a 1 degree Celsius drop in temperature. While a feeble western disturbance is likely to impact the western Himalayan region around December 1 and 2, it won’t have much impact on the northern plains, experts said.
“In the absence of a weather system, cold north-westerlies are prevailing in the region, causing a gradual drop in temperature. This is likely to continue this week and mercury may further drop by a degree in Gurgaon and adjoining areas. Though a feeble western disturbance is likely to impact the hills around December 1 and 2, it will cause light showers or snowfall in the upper reaches only. Till the time the hills do not receive heavy snowfall, no sharp fall in temperature is expected,” said Mahesh Palawat, vice president of Skymet Weather, a private forecasting agency.
This November, around 3-4 western disturbances impacted the western Himalayan region in the first half of this month, which brought light to moderate rainfall and snow in the hills and isolated rains in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. No significant weather system has been recorded in the second half of November so far.
According to IMD’s forecast, the minimum and maximum temperatures on Tuesday are likely to hover around 9 and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Delhi recorded the season’s lowest minimum temperature at 7.6 degree Celsius, two degrees below normal, on Monday.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 27.2 degree Celsius, two degrees above normal, against 27.5 degree Celsius a day earlier.
Meanwhile, two of the Gurgaon’s four monitoring stations — Sector 51 (AQI of 277) and Teri Gram (244) — recorded ‘poor’ air on Monday, while it was ‘very poor’ at Vikas Sadan (330). The AQI at Gwalpahari could not be calculated due to insufficient data.
Delhi’s air quality deteriorated within the ‘very poor’ category. The AQI on a scale of 0 to 500 was recorded at 333 on Monday, against 328 a day earlier.
According to pollution monitoring agencies, the region’s air quality may deteriorate further over the next few days but is expected remain within the ‘very poor’ category.
